The more you can live in an environment, the more likely that environment will be "lived in" / "mature" or at minimum garner a community with the intent of bringing these things directionally 'where they need it to be' . You want to be a, if possible THE host not a client that uses it.
This is the value-proposition of something like an operating-system, game-engine, desktop-environment, or "the web".
